چکیده

Background: water shortage is one of the major factor effects on growth characters and yield most crops. Objective: this study was conducted to get know reactions some Egyptian cotton genotypes deficit. Methods: The genetic materials used in included thirteen belonging Gossypium barbadense L., from Cotton Research Institute (CRI), which devoted establishing experimental for investigation. Results: ratio GCA/SCA less than unity all studied indices, indicating predominance non-additive gene action (dominance epistasis), an important exploitation heterosis through hybrid breeding. data showed significant reduction relationship parental under stress conditions. variety Giza 68 gave high values characters. Data revealed that greater value tolerance index is, larger deficit conditions higher sensitivity becoming. 96 highest At same time, cross combination Minufy x Australy followed by combinations 67 Australy. Of male parents, Russian genotype 10229 recorded best GCA female old exhibited good general combined 86 Pima S6, 77 94 Dandra desirable SCA effect Conclusion: relative content %, osmotic pressure, chlorophyll carotenoids indicates better availability cell, increases photosynthetic rate. Also, level proline accumulation leaves suggests production probably a common response plant

Water-deficit Stress in Cotton

Water deficit is the major abiotic factor limiting plant growth and crop productivity around the world (Kramer, 1983). Approximately one third of the cultivated area of the world suffers from chronically inadequate supplies of water (Massacci et al., 2008). In all agricultural regions, yields of rain-fed crops are periodically reduced by drought (Kramer, 1983), and the severity of the problem m...

Water relations and leaf growth rate of three Agropyron genotypes under water stress.

The effects of water stress on leaf water relations and growth are reported for three perennial tussock grass genotypes under glasshouse conditions. Studies were performed in genotypes El Palmar INTA and Selección Anguil of Agropyron scabrifolium (Döell) Parodi, and El Vizcachero of A. elongatum (Host) Beauv. Agropyron scabrifolium El Palmar INTA is native to a region with warm-temperate and hu...

Water deficit and ethylene evolution by young cotton bolls.

Ethylene evolution and abscission of young cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) bolls were shown, in earlier papers, to increase when plants were subjected to conditions that decreased photosynthesis and sugar content of bolls (dim light, long warm nights). Moisture stress also increased ethylene evolution by young bolls, but it did not decrease their concentrations of fructose, glucose, or sucrose. ...

Effect of 1-Methylcyclopropene on the Cotton Flower Under Water-Deficit Stress

Drought is the main abiotic factor limiting more than 70% of the arable land around the world. Ethylene, a plant hormone, has often been observed to increase under environmentally unfavorable conditions, resulting in abscission of leaves and fruiting forms and ultimately in yield reduction. Concerning cotton, however, the effects of water-deficit stress on ethylene production have been uncertai...

RNA-Seq Transcriptome Profiling of Upland Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) Root Tissue under Water-Deficit Stress

An RNA-Seq experiment was performed using field grown well-watered and naturally rain fed cotton plants to identify differentially expressed transcripts under water-deficit stress. Our work constitutes the first application of the newly published diploid D5 Gossypium raimondii sequence in the study of tetraploid AD1 upland cotton RNA-seq transcriptome analysis. A total of 1,530 transcripts were...
